Health and Family Welfare Minister and Narsingdi-4 (Monohardi-Belabo) MP Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul has said there will be no place in the party for corrupt individuals, criminals, land grabbers, extortionists or people involved in armed activities.
He urged BNP leaders and activists to remain accountable to the people and practice politics with honesty, transparency, discipline and responsibility.
The minister made the remarks on Friday, August 28, at a joint meeting with leaders and activists of Monohardi and Belabo Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations. The meeting was held jointly due to his time constraints.
Presidents, general secretaries and member secretaries of the two upazila BNP units, along with presidents and general secretaries of various union-level BNP units and leaders of affiliated organizations, attended the meeting.
Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul said his government responsibilities and organizational activities often prevent him from staying in the constituency regularly. However, he said development and public welfare activities in the area are continuing.
He said significant development allocations have already been secured for the constituency through the Ministry of Health, adding that several more development projects are expected to become visible within the next six months.
The minister also said he has recently been assigned additional responsibility for development coordination and organizational activities in Munshiganj and Manikganj, increasing his government and organizational workload.
The minister strongly warned party leaders and activists against allegations of land grabbing, particularly involving vulnerable and helpless people, as well as other irregularities at the local level.
“No injustice will be tolerated,” he said, urging party workers to avoid using personal influence to secure advantages or engaging in politics aimed at pleasing different sides.
He stressed that holding a party position alone is not enough. Leaders and activists must work for the welfare of ordinary people and earn their trust through responsible conduct.
He also warned against extortion, terrorism, corruption and misconduct, saying such activities directly damage the party's image.
During the meeting, leaders were instructed to observe BNP's founding anniversary on September 1 through various programs, including discussion meetings, rallies, public announcements, posters and banners, fish fry releases and tree plantation.
Party leaders were also asked to increase publicity of the programs on social media and install posters and banners across their respective unions and local areas.
The minister emphasized transparency in the distribution of Family Cards, saying the cards must reach genuinely eligible beneficiaries rather than being distributed on the basis of party affiliation or personal recommendations.
He instructed ward- and upazila-level leaders to ensure proper verification and transparent selection of beneficiaries.
Bakul also urged party members to maintain cordial relations with ordinary citizens and help preserve a democratic political environment.
The meeting also discussed the fertilizer supply situation for farmers.
The minister asked local party leaders to remain vigilant over allegations that some fertilizer dealers may be hoarding supplies. He said initiatives have been taken to appoint new fertilizer dealers in every union, with arrangements for appointing sub-dealers through the new dealers.
He stressed that the dealer appointment process must be based on merit, transparency and fairness.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul urged party leaders and activists to rise above personal interests, maintain party discipline and work for the welfare of ordinary people.
