‘Development Cannot Happen Through Continuous Movements; Everyone Must Work Together’ — Anny

Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny has called for political unity and cooperation, saying the country’s development will not be possible if Bangladesh remains caught up in continuous political movements.

“The people have entrusted the responsibility of running the country to the BNP. Another side contested the election with us and is now in the opposition. They were not even present when we took the oath of office and have not cooperated with us,” Anny said.

He made the remarks on Friday (August 28) while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with beneficiaries of the SDF’s B-Strong project in South Durgapur area of Dighli Union under Chandraganj.

‘We Need to Protect What We Have Achieved’

Anny said BNP had fought against the previous government for 17 years and that the country and its people suffered significantly during that period.

“We all took part in the movement to protect the country and democracy. Now our responsibility is to safeguard those achievements and build a new Bangladesh. For that, cooperation from the opposition is necessary,” he said.

Referring to the opposition’s recent programmes, including a long march, the minister said continuous political agitation would hamper development.

“If Bangladesh remains occupied with movements, development in our areas will not happen. Such movements will harm both the locality and the country,” he said.

Anny alleged that the opposition was seeking to weaken the BNP through continued political movements.

He urged BNP leaders and activists to remain united and work at the grassroots level instead of allowing political divisions to disrupt development activities.

“Everyone must work together and remain united in the field,” he said.

The minister also recalled the BNP’s previous anti-government movements and said political instability had caused extensive damage to the country’s economy and development.

The meeting was chaired by Chandraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nilufa Yasmin.

Among those present were Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rob, Chandraganj Upazila BNP President Belal Hossain, General Secretary Yusuf Bhuiyan, Dighli Union BNP President Golam Sarwar, General Secretary Kazi Nurul Amin, BNP leader Shahjahan Mia, and Chandraganj Upazila Chhatra Dal General Secretary Jaher Islam Jahangir, among others.
