Erling Haaland scored twice in Norway's 3-2 victory over Senegal on Monday, sending his team to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in 28 years.
On a rainy evening in New Jersey, Senegal started strong. Widely seen as Africa's top contender, they dominated the first 30 minutes, effectively keeping Haaland away from the ball and frustrating the Norwegian attack.
However, Senegal's defense folded just before halftime. Following a missed clearance by captain Kalidou Koulibaly, substitute Marcus Pedersen—who replaced the injured Julian Ryerson—fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to open the scoring.
Norway struck quickly again in the second half. Martin Odegaard set up Haaland, who blasted a shot into the top corner. Ten minutes later, the 25-year-old striker scored again, volleying the ball off the crossbar to secure his fourth goal of the tournament.
