A revitalized Chelsea secured their place in the FA Cup final on Sunday, defeating Leeds United 1-0 thanks to a first-half header from Enzo Fernandez. The victory sets up a high-stakes clash against Manchester City on May 16.

The win comes during a period of intense chaos for the London club. Just days ago, the owners, BlueCo, sacked head coach Liam Rosenior after a disastrous 106-day tenure. Rosenior’s departure followed a run of five league losses without a single goal a slump the club hadn't seen since 1912.

Interim boss Calum McFarlane took charge on the touchline, witnessing an immediate shift in attitude. "This group has massive character," McFarlane told BBC Radio 5 Live, dismissing claims that the players had stopped trying under the previous regime.

The match’s turning point came in the 23rd minute when Enzo Fernandez met a cross from Pedro Neto, planting a firm header past Leeds keeper Lucas Perri. The goal ended a dismal 498-minute scoring drought for Chelsea against Premier League opposition.

Fernandez’s performance was a stark contrast to his recent headlines. The Argentine midfielder was recently suspended for two matches after an interview hinted at a move to Real Madrid. However, at Wembley, he was the undisputed engine of the team, bringing his season goal tally to 13.

Leeds United, currently fighting for Premier League survival, pushed hard in the second half after manager Daniel Farke adjusted his tactics. Despite the pressure, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez remained solid, making crucial saves from Brenden Aaronson and Anton Stach to maintain the clean sheet.

For Chelsea's owners, the FA Cup final offers a rare chance to salvage a "shambolic" season with silverware a feat the club has historically managed even during periods of extreme instability.
