A four-wicket haul by Adam Zampa and an unbeaten half-century from Mitchell Marsh guided Australia to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Oman in a consolation match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Already eliminated from Super Eight contention, Australia ended their campaign on a positive note by restricting Oman to 104 in 16.2 overs before chasing the target in just 9.4 overs.
Zampa returned to form after two wicketless outings, finishing with 4 for 21. He was well supported by Glenn Maxwell and Xavier Bartlett, who took two wickets each as Oman collapsed after a steady start.
In reply, Marsh and Travis Head made light work of the modest target, putting on 93 runs for the opening wicket. Marsh smashed 64 not out off 33 balls, while Head scored 32 off 19 before falling late in the chase. Australia crossed the line with little celebration, reflecting the match’s limited impact on their tournament outcome.
For Oman, Wasim Ali top-scored with 32, but the team once again failed to convert promise into a competitive total. They finished the tournament without a win, losing all four matches convincingly.
Australia concluded their World Cup campaign with two wins from four games, while Oman exited without a point.
