Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been accused of disrespecting the national flag during his celebration after India’s T20 World Cup victory. A lawyer in Pune has filed a formal complaint with the police, according to NDTV.

Lawyer Wajid Khan submitted an application to the Shivaji Nagar police station in Pune, requesting an FIR against Pandya. The complaint claims that Pandya’s actions on the field after the T20 World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad were indecent. He reportedly wore the national flag on his body during celebrations.

Khan stated, “This act can be considered an offence under applicable law. It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the dignity of the national flag.”

The controversy began after images of Pandya celebrating with the flag went viral on social media. Khan added, “Pandya was dancing with his girlfriend while the national flag was tied on his back. He was so engrossed in the celebration that he even wrapped himself and his girlfriend in the flag. In my opinion, this is an insult to the national flag.”
