A former local leader of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal was stabbed to death in the capital's Mouchak area on Monday night following a dispute. In swift response to the murder, the Jubo Dal central committee permanently expelled the prime suspect and dissolved its Ramna unit.
The victim, 57-year-old Billal Hossain Talukder, was a former convener of the Swechchhasebak Dal's Ramna police station unit. He resided in the Malibagh Baganbari area and was a construction materials trader by profession.
According to the victim's nephew, Md. Mobarak Hossain Akash, the fatal altercation stemmed from an earlier incident on Monday evening when a group of youths beat him. Seeking to resolve the issue, Billal attended an arbitration meeting in front of Anarkali Market around 8:00 pm.
Witnesses reported that during the mediation, a heated argument broke out between Billal and Didarul Islam Babu, the current convener of the Ramna Jubo Dal, along with unit secretary Lutfar. As the dispute escalated, Babu's followers reportedly stabbed Billal in the chest, causing him to collapse immediately.
Locals rescued the critically injured Billal and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending doctors declared him dead at 9:15 pm.
Following the killing, the Jubo Dal central committee took immediate organizational action. Didarul Islam Babu was permanently expelled from the party for his alleged direct involvement in the murder, and the entire Ramna police station Jubo Dal committee was declared dissolved. Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the incident.
