BNP candidate Hasan Jafir Tuhin (Pabna-3) has been served a show cause.

The Election Inquiry Committee has issued a show cause notice to Hasan Jafir Tuhin, the BNP candidate for the Pabna-3 (Chatmohar-Bhangura-Faridpur) constituency, for allegedly violating the electoral code of conduct ahead of the 13th National Parliament election.

Judge Sanchita Islam of the Pabna Senior Civil Judge’s Court, who chairs the inquiry committee for the constituency, issued the notice on Saturday (January 17).

The committee flagged several Facebook accounts, including one under the name "Likhon Sarkar," which have been circulating campaign videos and images soliciting votes for the "Paddy Sheaf" symbol.

Under Rule 18 of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates (2025), formal election campaigning is strictly prohibited until three weeks before the polling date. The committee noted that these early digital campaigns constitute a clear violation of the law and are a punishable offense.

Hasan Jafir Tuhin has been directed to appear in person at the office of Judge Sanchita Islam on Tuesday, January 20, at 10:30 AM. He must provide a written explanation as to why legal action should not be taken against him for these premature campaigning activities.

Attempts to reach Mr. Tuhin for a statement were unsuccessful as he did not respond to phone calls.
