Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has rejected the recent correspondence from the banned Awami League to the United Nations, asserting that it will have "no impact."
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the adviser addressed a query regarding the letter, in which the Awami League requested the UN to retract its support from what it termed a "non-inclusive and non-credible" electoral process in Bangladesh.
"The letter dispatched by the Awami League to the United Nations will not yield any results," Touhid Hossain stated. Reports indicate that the letter was sent last Saturday to Stefan Liller, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Dhaka. In this correspondence, the banned political party urged the UN not to aid in the organization or endorsement of the forthcoming national election, arguing that it lacks inclusivity and public confidence. The letter was endorsed by former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on behalf of the Awami League leadership, many of whom are currently abroad following the party's ousting from power earlier this year.
