Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Day-2026 on Saturday marking the historic institution's 80th anniversary.
The Prime Minister opened the event at 10:00 AM on the college campus by releasing balloons and pigeons. He was accompanied by his spouse, Dr. Zubaida Rahman an alumnus of DMC and Vice-Chairperson of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation. To commemorate the milestone they planted two medicinal saplings—an Arjun tree and a Neem tree—on the campus premises.
Following the tree plantation, a special 'munajat' (prayer) was offered to honor the martyrs of the 2024 July mass uprising.
During the visit, Brigadier General Mir Sarwar Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of the Health Engineering Department, briefed the Prime Minister on the construction of two female dormitories. The structures are part of a broader development project aimed at building 19 modern student hostel buildings. The Prime Minister requested detailed updates regarding the amenities and facilities designed for the students in these new buildings.
The event was attended by Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain, State Minister Dr. MA Muhit, senior health ministry officials, and leaders from the medical community. Founded on July 10, 1946, Dhaka Medical College is entering its 81st year of medical service and education.
