Bangladesh’s Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed concluded a series of high-level diplomatic meetings at the United Nations in New York, focusing on regional security and international law enforcement.
In a bilateral session with Pakistan's Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-narcotics and institutional capacity building. Minister Salahuddin also raised humanitarian concerns regarding the difficulties faced by Pakistani nationals of Bangladeshi origin in obtaining National Identity Cards. Their talks extended to the Middle East conflict's impact on regional energy security and trade.
Broadening the scope of security cooperation, Salahuddin met Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Public Security, Nguyen Van Long. This discussion prioritized migration management, consular services, and joint efforts to combat human trafficking and transnational crimes.
On the global stage, the Home Minister met UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary A. DiCarlo to reaffirm Bangladesh’s commitment to international stability. He specifically urged for sustained international support to ensure the repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
These meetings follow earlier discussions with UN officials Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Atul Khare, where the Minister sought greater deployment of Bangladeshi police in UN missions. He particularly highlighted planned specialized police deployments to Haiti and requested more leadership positions for Bangladeshi officers within the UN system. These engagements underscore Bangladesh’s proactive role in global diplomacy and its commitment to tackling cross-border crime.
