The Bangladesh Parliament passed the Public Examinations (Offences) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, on Tuesday, significantly increasing penalties for those involved in leaking question papers online.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon placed the bill before the House, where it was passed by voice vote. The legislative move comes as a direct response to the threat of digital manipulation and the unauthorized distribution of exam materials through online platforms.

Under the amended law, offenders found guilty of leaking public examination question papers via digital or any other means now face a maximum of five years in prison and a monetary fine. These stricter measures are designed to protect the integrity of the national examination system and ensure a fair environment for all students.

The bill was passed after lawmakers rejected several motions that had sought to refer the legislation to a select committee or gather further public opinion.
