Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed expressed deep sorrow and strongly condemned the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Friday (July 3).

Leading a Bangladesh delegation to attend Khamenei’s state funeral, Speaker Hafizuddin conveyed solidarity with the Iranian people during this period of national mourning. He highlighted the deep-rooted cultural ties and long-standing friendship between the two nations.

During the talks, the Bangladesh Speaker praised Ghalibaf's constructive role in implementing the recent US-Iran peace agreement (the Islamabad Memorandum). He expressed optimism that the landmark accord would usher in lasting stability and prosperity for Iran and the broader Middle East, reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to resolving global conflicts through diplomatic dialogue.

Earlier on Thursday, Speaker Hafizuddin arrived in Tehran and was received at the airport by Hamid Reza Haji Babai, Deputy Speaker of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly. Before concluding Friday's meeting, Hafizuddin extended a formal invitation to Speaker Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at his convenience.
