Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mazharul Islam has called for the expansion of solar power initiatives to tackle climate change, conserve electricity, and ensure sustainable farming.
On Thursday, the DC spent the day at North Channel Union in Faridpur Sadar Upazila, inaugurating several solar-powered projects and leading various public welfare programs.
While inspecting solar-powered irrigation pumps, he noted that using solar energy in agriculture lowers production costs while promoting eco-friendly, sustainable farming. He also spoke directly with local farmers about the practical benefits and future potential of solar irrigation.
To help off-grid and low-income families improve their living standards, the district administration distributed free solar panels to local beneficiaries.
During the visit, Islam also toured a local seed depot, a compost fertilizer facility, and a rural pumpkin processing center. He advised farmers and entrepreneurs on adopting modern technology, increasing yields, and expanding their market reach.
Following a visit to Char Natkhola Government Primary School to review its ongoing development, he distributed tree saplings, financial aid checks, and winter clothing to local farmers, students, and low-income families.
Concluding the day, the DC inaugurated a new building at Yusuf Ali Mohanmia High School, participated in a tree plantation drive, and addressed a parents' gathering. As the chief guest, he strongly urged the community to stand together to prevent child marriage and drug abuse.
