Education, Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin has outlined the government's vision for Bangladesh's future education system while wishing HSC and equivalent examination candidates success.
Speaking at a Ministry of Education press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Mahdi Amin said the government plans to reform the curriculum by placing greater emphasis on culture, sports and co-curricular activities alongside textbook learning.
He said the government aims to introduce technical and vocational education from Class 6. Initially, the subjects will be taught theoretically before practical training is gradually introduced. He also said plans are underway to introduce a third language in a phased manner.
The adviser said the government envisions a "360-degree" education system that allows students to develop their talents, creativity and skills according to their interests.
According to Mahdi Amin, the proposed education system will also focus on moral education, family values and social responsibility while preparing students for employment, entrepreneurship and opportunities at home and abroad.
He acknowledged that the government has been in office for only about four and a half months, making major curriculum reforms difficult in the short term. He said limited time for printing textbooks also prevents immediate changes, adding that significant reforms are expected to begin from the following academic year.
This year's HSC and equivalent examinations begin on Thursday.
Wishing candidates success, Mahdi Amin said the examinations are an important milestone in students' lives. He said the government is committed to ensuring that students can sit for the exams in a safe, fair and stress-free environment.
He added that law enforcement agencies, the administration and all authorities concerned will receive necessary instructions to ensure smooth, transparent and orderly examinations.
Referring to the recent SSC examinations, the adviser said the government had worked to prevent question paper leaks and cheating. He said similar efforts would continue during the HSC examinations to maintain fairness and transparency.
Mahdi Amin also called on students and guardians to cooperate in ensuring the successful completion of the examinations.
According to the adviser, around 621,000 male students and 648,000 female students are participating in this year's HSC and equivalent examinations, with female candidates outnumbering male candidates.
Education Adviser ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khalek were also present at the press conference.
