Disaster Management and Relief Minister Principal Asadul Habib Dulu announced on Saturday that the Teesta Master Plan will soon commence, aiming to transform the lives of 20 million people in the Rangpur region.
The Minister confirmed that the President highlighted the project during the first session of the National Parliament. "Following discussions with the Prime Minister, necessary inspections and feasibility tests are now underway to implement this mega-project," the Minister stated.
He made these remarks while inaugurating the world’s largest cooking cauldron, an initiative by the voluntary organization Bidyananda Foundation, at Holokhana in Kurigram Sadar Upazila. The cauldron will be used to provide large-scale food relief to helpless communities during disasters.
A new facility in Gazipur will host domestic and international experts to improve disaster response. The ministry plans to dig 1,500 kilometers of canals nationwide, including projects in Kurigram, to manage water resources. Ongoing TR and Kabikha programs will be supplemented by Special Relief (GR) allocations to ensure no one is left behind during local crises.
The event was attended by Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath, Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, and senior district political leaders.
