


A moderate earthquake measuring magnitude 5.0 struck Myanmar late Wednesday night, sending tremors across parts of Bangladesh and India.
According to earthquake monitoring agencies, the quake occurred around 11:00pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday (February 25). The epicentre was in Myanmar’s Sagaing region, at a depth of about 101 kilometres underground.
Data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) showed the quake originated roughly 112 kilometres north-northwest of Maniwa city and about 75 kilometres southeast of Maulaik. The coordinates were recorded at 23.0441° north latitude and 94.7268° east longitude.
Tremors Felt in Bangladesh
The tremors were felt in several parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka. Residents of Banashree, Greenbagh, Moghbazar and Malibagh reported feeling the shaking, prompting many to rush out of their homes in panic.
The earthquake was also felt in Sylhet, where it caused brief fear among residents. In addition, tremors were reported from parts of the Chattogram Division, including Cox's Bazar.
No Casualties Reported
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage in Bangladesh following the earthquake.
