4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Southwestern Bangladesh

A light earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was felt in the country’s southwest early Tuesday morning.

The tremor occurred at around 4:00am on February 3, according to a notification issued by Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The department classified the quake as “light” and said its epicenter was located in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district, about 175 kilometers southwest of Dhaka.

Data from the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of the Meteorological Department confirmed the location, while the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported the quake’s depth at approximately 150 kilometers. The EMSC said the epicenter was about 16 kilometers northwest of Satkhira.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
