


The oath-taking ceremony of the winning members of parliament in the 13th National Parliament election will be held at 10 am on Tuesday at the oath-taking room of the parliamentarians at the National Parliament Building.
Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat Kaniz Maula confirmed this information to the media.
And the Chief Advisor's office and BNP sources said that the oath-taking ceremony of the new cabinet members will be held on Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. Usually, the oath-taking of cabinet members is held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) published the gazette of 297 members of parliament (MPs) who won the election on Friday night.
According to sources in the Chief Advisor's office, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will administer the oath to the MPs. And President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the cabinet members.
The heads of government of 13 countries, including India, China, and Pakistan, have been invited to participate in the event by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
After the swearing-in of the members of parliament, the party that won the majority in the election will elect the leader of their parliamentary party. After this, the leader of the parliamentary party will formally inform the President about the confidence of the majority members. The President will then appoint him as the Prime Minister as per the rules and call for the formation of a new cabinet.
According to Article 148 (1) of the Constitution, the outgoing Speaker shall administer the oath to the new MPs. After the popular uprising, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, resigned on September 2, 2024. According to the Constitution, even if she resigns, she is supposed to administer the oath as Speaker. The Deputy Speaker of the previous parliament, Shamsul Haque Tuku, is in prison. He has not resigned yet. Article 148 (2) of the Constitution states that MPs can also take the oath from a person nominated by the Speaker.
Article 148 (2A) states that if the Speaker or his nominee does not administer the oath to the members of parliament within three days of the publication of the gazette, then the Chief Election Commissioner will administer the oath within the next three days. In this reality, the CEC will administer the oath to the elected MPs next Tuesday, three days after the publication of the gazette.
Breaking with the long-standing tradition of swearing in the new government, the interim government is preparing to hold the oath-taking ceremony of the new government at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban outside Bangabhaban. According to sources in the Law Ministry, President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath-taking ceremony of the new cabinet members on Tuesday evening.
Invitation to 13 countries including India, China, Pakistan The interim government has decided to invite the heads of government of 13 countries to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet based on discussions with BNP policymakers. Diplomatic sources said that the list of countries invited so far includes India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Turkey and Brunei.
The concerned officials of the Cabinet Department said that they have made preparations for the swearing-in of the ministers of the new government. Cars have been kept ready for the new ministers. The Government Housing Directorate is preparing the residences of the ministers.
