Many people feel energetic throughout the workday but become extremely tired as soon as they return home. It can seem as though the fatigue of the entire day suddenly catches up with them. Why does this happen?

According to experts, the body and brain remain in a “stress mode” during working hours. Hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol help keep us alert, focused, and active. Because of this, fatigue often goes unnoticed while we are busy.

Once work ends and the pressure decreases, the body recognizes that it is time to rest. At that point, the accumulated physical fatigue, mental stress, and exhaustion from the day become more noticeable. This is why many people feel sleepy or drained shortly after arriving home.

If this happens regularly, the following habits may help improve your energy levels:

  1. Set aside 10–15 minutes for yourself after returning home and allow your body to relax.
  2. Practice deep breathing for 2–5 minutes. Slow, controlled breathing helps the body enter a more relaxed state.
  3. Take a short walk, listen to music, or enjoy a cup of tea to reduce mental stress.
  4. Avoid using your mobile phone or laptop immediately after work whenever possible.
  5. Engage in light exercise or walk for 20–30 minutes daily to improve physical and mental energy.
  6. Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night to support overall health and recovery.
