Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed to avenge the "blood" of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declaring that Iran will retaliate against the United States and Israel.
In a written statement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei and broadcast on state television on Saturday (July 11) following his father's funeral, he said, "Revenge is the demand of the nation, and it will certainly be carried out."
The statement added, "We will avenge the blood of our martyred leader and all those who were killed in these two wars." It further described Iran's retaliation as "inevitable."
Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since the reported death of his father. However, according to U.S. claims, he was also seriously injured in the airstrike that reportedly took place in late February.
According to the report, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an airstrike during the early stages of the U.S.-Israeli conflict against Iran on February 28.
