Member of Parliament for Sunamganj-3, Mohammad Kaysar Ahmed, has warned that any party worker found involved in irregularities in the distribution of Farmer Cards will face strict organizational as well as legal action.
He made the remarks while responding to journalists' questions on Saturday afternoon during the inauguration of the Agricultural Technology Fair organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension in Shantiganj Upazila.
Kaysar Ahmed alleged that widespread irregularities and political influence had affected the agricultural sector during the tenure of the previous government. He claimed that corruption also extended to the education and health sectors, as well as major development projects.
"There were mega projects accompanied by mega corruption. We witnessed scandals involving construction materials, pillows, curtains, and irregularities in agriculture. However, the current Prime Minister remains committed to protecting farmers' interests. There will be no tolerance for corruption or irregularities in the Farmer Card program," he said.
The MP said the government is fulfilling its electoral commitments, highlighting the implementation of the Family Card initiative as an example.
He also announced that, under a pilot project, Farmer Cards are being distributed to farmers in Shimulbank Union of Shantiganj Upazila and Kolkolia and Holdipur unions of Jagannathpur Upazila.
Speaking on agriculture, Kaysar Ahmed urged citizens to revive the tradition of growing vegetables in their household gardens.
"There was a time when almost every family cultivated vegetables in their yards and enjoyed fresh produce. Today, we have become entirely market-dependent, and many vegetables sold in markets contain harmful chemicals. We should return to home gardening for healthier food and better nutrition," he said.
Regarding development activities, the MP said many projects approved in previous years had become associated with corruption and mismanagement.
"We are not here to target individuals. Our goal is to ensure that development projects are implemented properly and transparently. We will closely monitor every project and work together for the overall development of this region," he added.
