


A husband, wife, and their nine-month-old child were killed after being struck by a covered van while crossing the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila on Saturday, police said.
The fatal accident occurred around noon in the Beraiderchala area near the 2 No. C&B section of the highway.
The deceased were identified as Rakib Hasan, 35, a resident of Uttar Ranipur village in Pirojpur Sadar, his wife Bithi Akter, 30, and their nine-month-old son, Nur.
Rakib Hasan was employed in the Human Resources Department of Denimac Garments Limited in the Gorgoria Masterbari area of Sreepur Municipality.
According to Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Maona Highway Police Station, the family was crossing the highway with their infant when an unidentified covered van traveling toward Mymensingh struck them.
Bithi Akter died at the scene, while Rakib Hasan and their critically injured infant were rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex. Doctors declared Rakib dead upon arrival.
Their nine-month-old son was later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment but died on the way, police said.
Authorities have recovered the bodies and taken them to the police station. Family members have been informed, and the bodies are being handed over to the relatives following legal formalities.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and trace the covered van involved in the crash. Legal action will be taken in connection with the incident.
