US President Donald Trump has issued a severe military warning to Iran claiming 1,000 missiles are "locked and loaded" to target the country if Tehran attempts to assassinate him.

Writing on Truth Social Donald Trump stated that thousands more missiles would immediately follow to completely destroy Iranian territory. He claimed that standing orders have already been given to the US military to remain prepared for at least one year.

This escalation comes despite a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in June under Pakistani mediation which aimed to end the conflict that erupted in late February. The peace roadmap called for a ceasefire, the lifting of the US naval blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, the temporary truce has fractured. Trump declared the ceasefire "over" after both nations traded fresh military strikes this week over commercial shipping rights in the Strait of Hormuz. The US targeted infrastructure inside Iran prompting Iranian forces to strike US assets across the region.

Tensions intensified further following a Wall Street Journal report revealing that Israeli intelligence had uncovered a new Iranian plot to assassinate the US President.

Despite the breakdown of the ceasefire Washington has agreed to continue technical talks requested by Tehran to prevent full-scale war.
