Iran has accused Israel of killing four of its diplomats in a weekend strike on a hotel in Beirut, according to a letter sent to the United Nations secretary general.
In the letter, Iran’s permanent mission to the UN said the attack on the Ramada Hotel on Sunday, 8 March 2026 was a deliberate “terrorist attack” carried out by Israel. The strike “resulted in the assassination and martyrdom of four diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement said.
Reuters and state run Iranian media reported on Tuesday that four Iranian diplomats were killed in the Israeli attack in Lebanon, citing Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani.
The strike occurred amid a broader and intensifying conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and Hezbollah. According to international reports, an Israeli strike on the Ramada Plaza hotel in Beirut’s Raouche area killed at least four people and wounded others when it hit an apartment early Sunday.
Israeli authorities said the air raid targeted the senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force believed to be operating in Lebanon. The commanders were allegedly involved in coordinating militant support to groups such as Hezbollah and other Iran linked forces.
Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed the deaths and said at least 10 people were injured in the strike on the hotel in central Beirut. Some displaced civilians had reportedly been staying at the hotel, adding to the civilian risk.
The incident marks one of the most serious flare ups in the ongoing Middle East war following broader US Israel military operations against Iran earlier this month and Iran’s own retaliatory strikes across the region. The conflict has caused widespread casualties, economic disruption, and diplomatic tensions involving multiple regional states as per The Guardian.
Iran’s accusation highlights the diplomatic fallout from the conflict, as Tehran continues to condemn Israeli actions and seeks international responses through the UN and other forums.
