U.S. President Donald Trump, along with regional leaders, signed a declaration today intended to solidify a ceasefire in Gaza, which he hailed as a "tremendous day for the Middle East" and "for the world."
The declaration signing ceremony took place during an international summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, hours after the first phase of a U.S.-brokered deal was implemented. This phase Hamas release the remaining 20 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza, in exchange for Israel freeing nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
Earlier in the day, US President Trump addressed the Israeli Knesset, declaring that the ceasefire agreement marked the end of the war in Gaza and the "age of terror and death." Declaration signed in Egypt by Trump and the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey is meant to formalize the U.S.-proposed peace plan, which also outlines future steps for the post-war governance and reconstruction of Gaza.
