Trump's Board of Peace Reaches Gaza Deal Amid Criticism

US President Donald Trump has announced a “historic” phased agreement brokered by his newly formed "Board of Peace" aimed at securing the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Initially proposed to resolve the Gaza war the Board seeks to manage global conflicts under Trump’s chairmanship transferring traditional UN peacekeeping responsibilities to a US-led coalition. Its executive board features prominent figures including Marco Rubio Jared Kushner and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

While over two dozen nations—including Saudi Arabia Egypt and Israel—have joined key Western allies China Russia and Global South powers like India and Brazil have notably declined. Permanent membership on the Board requires a staggering $1 billion contribution from member states.

The UN Security Council has granted the Board temporary authority through 2027 to deploy an International Stabilization Force and coordinate Gaza’s redevelopment. Recently the Board raised $7 billion for a reconstruction fund—though up to $70 billion is needed to rebuild the devastated territory—and began planning a pilot humanitarian zone.

Despite these developments the initiative faces intense international scrutiny. Rights advocates argue its framework resembles a colonial structure that deliberately undermines the United Nations.

Critics strongly condemn the absence of Palestinian representation on a board dictating their territory's governance while also questioning the inclusion of Israel and several nations with heavily criticized human rights records.
