Actor and dancer Nora Fatehi recently shared a rare, vulnerable look into her personal life and discussing the lasting impact of being raised by a single mother and her struggles with "daddy issues."
Speaking on Lilly Singh’s podcast the star revealed how childhood abandonment continues to shape her adult relationships.
The Weight of Abandonment
Nora candidly admitted that her parents' divorce and her father’s subsequent long-term absence left deep emotional scars. "I have daddy issues I really do " she confessed and explaining that seeing her mother struggle to raise two children alone led to a deep-seated resentment toward how some men treat women.
She noted that while she has met "great men," her unresolved trauma often manifests as abandonment issues. This makes breakups particularly difficult, sometimes causing her to stay in unhealthy relationships because the fear of being left is so overwhelming.
Generational Gaps in Brown Families
The dancer also highlighted the cultural pressures prevalent in South Asian and immigrant households. She described the mental exhaustion of balancing the "outside world" with a conservative home environment.
"It’s hard to get to understand us," Nora said, citing the What will people say? mindset. She revealed it took her mother 14 years to leave her father because of societal pressure and family members urging "patience" despite her unhappiness.
Finding Inspiration at Home
While Nora once looked to global icons like Shakira and Jennifer Lopez for inspiration that she now views her mother as her greatest hero. She praised her mother’s resilience in working multiple jobs to provide for her and her brother and calling her a "low-key" inspiration who pushed through a very difficult life.
Nora concluded by stating she is still "figuring out" how to navigate relationships while working through her past also proving that even for global stars and healing is a continuous journey.
