Director Raihan Rafi, known for bringing real-life tragedies to the big screen, has announced his intention to direct a film based on the 2009 BDR massacre.
Rafi has built a reputation for dramatizing high-profile criminal cases. His portfolio includes Paran (inspired by the Rifat-Minni murder), Janwar (the Gazipur expatriate murders), and Friday (the Kadamtali triple murder). Most recently, his web film Amimansit, reportedly based on the Sagar-Runi journalist murders, was released following a previous ban by the censor board under the former administration.
The BDR mutiny, which occurred on February 25–26, 2009, resulted in the deaths of 74 people, including then-Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed.
"I have a deep desire to make a movie on the BDR massacre," Rafi stated. "So many soldiers were killed, and mass graves were discovered. To this day, the full story of what happened inside remains a mystery to many. Once more information is available, I will bring it to the screen."
Rafi emphasized that working on true stories requires courage, noting that his goal is to foster social awareness to prevent future injustices. Despite past challenges with censorship, he remains committed to investigative storytelling.
Currently, Rafi is working on his upcoming film "Pressure Cooker," which marks his debut as a producer. The film features four interconnected stories and is slated for an Eid release. Additionally, his horror film "Andhar" is expected to hit theaters later this year.
