Voting began in a festive and peaceful atmosphere across five constituencies in Pabna on Wednesday morning.
BNP candidate for Pabna-5, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, cast his vote at 7:45am at the Puran Kuthipara Government Boys Primary School polling station in Pabna Sadar municipality.
Speaking to the media after voting, Shimul Biswas said attempts to influence voters with money should be rejected at the ballot box. “Those who are trying to buy votes by exploiting people’s hardships will receive their answer through voting,” he said.
He added that his party would accept the verdict of the people if the election is held in a free and fair environment without obstruction. “We will respect the decision the common people make through their votes,” he said.
Voting also began smoothly in other constituencies of the district. Long queues of voters, particularly men, were seen at polling centres from early morning.
No untoward incidents were reported, and security was strengthened around all polling stations to ensure a peaceful voting process.
