LGED Holds Workshop on Rural Road Management in Shantiganj

A workshop focused on upgrading rural road management updating databases and securing road rights (Right of Way) was held in Shantiganj upazila Sunamganj on Tuesday.

Organized by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) the event took place at the Upazila Parishad auditorium. It was conducted under the GIS-based Rural Road Master Plan Preparation project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and RCIMP.

LGED Sunamganj Executive Engineer Md. Anwar Hossain attended as the chief guest, with Shantiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Islam Uddin presiding. LGED Upazila Engineer Md. Sajedul Alam moderated the session.

During the event GIS Specialist Shakib Hasan delivered a detailed presentation on establishing a core rural road network preserving road rights and utilizing modern GIS technology for data verification.

Speakers emphasized that accurate data-driven planning is crucial for the sustainable development and maintenance of rural infrastructure. They also urged coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to protect public road rights against encroachment. Organizers noted that validating field-level data through such workshops will play a vital role in shaping effective rural road development plans in the future.

The event saw participation from various local leaders and stakeholders, including BNP district committee member Ansar Uddin former Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Faruk Ahmed Union Parishad chairmen from Paschim Pagla Dargapasha Shimulbak Patharia and West Birgaon alongside local government officials and field-level engineers.
