A regional workshop for the ‘Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER)’ was held in Faridpur to discuss modernizing the agricultural sector and securing public nutrition.
Organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the event took place Wednesday morning at the Faridpur Sadar Upazila Hallroom. Key discussions focused on transforming local farming systems, diversifying food production, developing agricultural entrepreneurs, and innovating climate-resilient crop varieties.
Md. Khoyer Uddin Molya, Additional Director of the DAE (Faridpur Region), chaired the event, with Md. Rawshan Alam, Additional Director (Equipment) of the Department of Agriculture, serving as the lead discussant. Other notable speakers included PARTNER Program Additional Director Gaur Govinda Das and Faridpur Rice Research Center Scientific Officer Md. Mofazzal Hossain.
Speakers noted that the PARTNER Program, launched by the DAE in 2023, is actively working to make Bangladesh's agriculture modern and sustainable. The initiative focuses on developing better crop varieties, expanding modern irrigation, introducing "smart cards" for farmers, digitizing agricultural services, and empowering women and youth as agricultural entrepreneurs.
Agricultural officers, entrepreneurs, and farmers from five districts across Greater Faridpur attended the session. Participants stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts to boost production, ensure access to nutritious food, and tackle the ongoing challenges of climate change.
