Residents held a human chain and protest march on Sunday morning, demanding immediate police action against widespread drug dealing in Lohagara Municipality.
The hour-long demonstration, organized by Ward 6 residents, took place at 11:30 a.m. at the main gate of the Lohagara Upazila Parishad along the Kalna-Narail-Benapole National Highway.
Speakers at the event alleged that the local drug trade has reached an alarming level. They claimed dealers are operating openly in Ward 6—an area located directly next to the local police station—leading to a sharp rise in local addiction rates.
Protesters urged law enforcement to intervene immediately, stating that illegal drugs are being sold "under the nose of the police administration."
Former Mayor Advocate Newaz Ahmed Thakur Nazrul, District Jamaat Working Council member Jamirul Haque Tutul, GM Mahbubur Rahman Liton, KM Jiban Zia, and KM Habibullah Belali addressed the crowd, which drew participants from various professions.
Following the human chain, the protest concluded with a march through the town's main roads.
