The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Chattogram District Police have launched a comprehensive security and surveillance plan to maintain law and order across the metropolis and district during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
With millions of residents leaving for their village homes, authorities have intensified night patrols, set up highway check-posts, and deployed plainclothes detectives to secure empty residential areas, cattle markets, and shopping malls.
CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali stated that a multi-layered security plan is in full effect. Specialized police teams have been stationed at sacrificial animal markets to detect counterfeit currency and prevent pickpocketing or "Malam Party" (poisoning) gangs.
"We are on maximum alert. Police check-posts are actively searching suspicious vehicles at all city entry points," the Commissioner said. He also urged citizens to secure their doors and windows properly before leaving town, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital for absolute security.
Concurrently, Chattogram District Police Superintendent Md. Masud Alam confirmed that rural beat policing, local community watch groups, and highway traffic teams have been mobilized to prevent highway congestion and deter burglary.
Authorities have requested the public to report any suspicious activity immediately by dialing the national emergency helpline 999 or contacting the nearest police station.
