Police recovered the hanging body of a 27-year-old man from the Sagarika flyover in Chittagong’s Pahartali area early Monday.
The deceased, identified as Abu Kausar, was found near the BSRM depot around 3:00 am. Kausar, son of the late Abul Kashem from Raozan Upazila, resided in the West Feroz Shah area and worked as a security guard at the depot.
Preliminary police reports indicate no injury marks were found on the body, leading investigators to suspect suicide.
The incident gained traction on social media Tuesday night, with some posts claiming the victim was a local Chhatra League leader who had been murdered. However, Pahartali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Absar dismissed these claims.
"According to his family, Kausar had been struggling with drug addiction and mental health issues for a long time," the OC stated. He added that the family confirmed Kausar was not involved in any political organizations.
The body has been handed over to the family following an autopsy. A case of unnatural death has been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.
