The Newmooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port has achieved a historic milestone, recording its highest-ever container handling volume within a 24-hour period.
Between 8:00 AM on Thursday (April 30) and 8:00 AM on Friday (May 1), the NCT handled 5,709 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). This surpasses the terminal’s previous record of 5,484 TEUs set just weeks earlier on April 11.
Managed by the Bangladesh Navy’s Chattogram Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), the terminal's success is being attributed to improved operational discipline and strategic management. During the same 24-hour window, the entire Chittagong Port handled a total of 10,162 TEUs, showcasing a significant boost in overall port capacity.
Port officials noted that while integrated management has driven this growth, further potential remains. The repair or replacement of currently inoperative equipment—including rubber-tired gantry cranes, forklifts, and mobile cranes—is expected to push capacity even higher.
In honor of May Day, authorities dedicated this achievement to the port’s workforce. Syed Refayet Hamim, Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority, stated that breaking consecutive records proves the port’s growing efficiency and will have a direct positive impact on the national economy and maritime trade.
