Local authorities in Shantiganj (Sunamganj) held an emergency meeting on Monday to prepare for potential flooding, following a forecast of heavy rainfall starting April 28.
Chaired by Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Shahjahan, the Disaster Management Committee discussed urgent measures to protect lives and property. Officials, including agriculture and police officers as well as Union Parishad chairmen, attended the meeting at the Upazila Parishad conference room.
Key Decisions and Safety Measures
To minimize the impact of early floods, the committee outlined several key actions: Family Preparedness: Residents are urged to stock dry food for at least 15 days.
Shelter Readiness: Local shelters are being prepared to house families if water levels rise.
Awareness Campaigns: Union Parishad chairmen have been tasked with spreading the flood warning to every household in their respective areas.
The meeting highlighted the importance of early action to protect the region's agriculture and livestock, which are highly vulnerable to sudden flooding in the haor region.
