Fourteen children have been admitted to two hospitals in Faridpur after exhibiting symptoms of measles. Health authorities have high alerts in place as samples are tested to confirm the outbreak.
Currently, eight children are receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH), while six others are at Faridpur General Hospital. Both facilities have established isolated "Measles Corners" to prevent further transmission.
The patients were initially hospitalized two to three days ago suffering from fever, cough, and diarrhea. However, by Monday afternoon, many developed the characteristic skin rashes and blisters associated with measles.
"My daughter had a fever and cough for four days. After she was admitted on Sunday, rashes appeared all over her body this afternoon. Doctors suspect it is measles," said Ratna Begum, mother of six-year-old patient Jannatul Akhter.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan confirmed that one child with complications has been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
"We have collected samples from 13 children and sent them to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka. We are awaiting the results to formally confirm the infection," Dr. Hasan stated. He added that the district health department is monitoring the situation closely as the incidence of measles appears to be rising nationally.
