Hasan Jafir Tuhin, the BNP-nominated candidate for Pabna-3 and central president of Krishak Dal, has offered an unconditional apology for violating the electoral code of conduct.
Appearing before the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee on Monday (January 20), Tuhin submitted a written undertaking promising that he and his supporters would strictly adhere to the rules in the future.
The committee, led by Pabna Senior Civil Judge Sanchita Islam, had issued a show-cause notice on Saturday (January 17). The notice cited premature campaigning on social media, where videos and photos seeking votes for the "Paddy Sheaf" symbol were being circulated via Facebook. According to the 2025 Code of Conduct, candidates are prohibited from formal campaigning until three weeks before the February 12 national election.
While the candidate was apologetic during the judicial hearing, a different scene unfolded outside the committee office. When approached by journalists, Tuhin’s appointed lawyer, Advocate Arshed Alam, reportedly behaved aggressively and refused to provide information. The candidate himself also avoided the media, declining to comment on the breach of conduct or his legal undertaking.
