


The police have solved the mystery of the sensational incident of the murder of schoolgirl Suraiya and the purpose of collecting ransom in Pabna's Faridpur upazila. Two accused directly involved in the incident have been arrested.
According to police sources, victim Suraiya and accused Dalia are cousins. The other accused, Abdul Latif, is Dalia's husband. Initial investigation revealed that since the victim's grandparents were financially well-off and easy-going, the accused planned a fake kidnapping in order to collect ransom.
On the day of the incident, accused Dalia took victim Suraiya to meet Abdul Latif at a designated place. Later, Dalia gave Suraiya sleeping pills and left her in an abandoned house. When they returned there at night, they found Suraiya dead. Then, to cover up the incident, the victim's body was thrown into a local pond.
Later, on January 17, 2026, a ransom of Tk 3 lakh was demanded from the victim's grandfather from the mobile phone used by Abdul Latif.
The police were able to arrest the accused Abdul Latif (Jantihar, Faridpur) and Dalia (the victim's cousin and Latif's wife), who were directly involved in the incident, within 24 hours of the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rezinul Rahman said that the arrested accused have been sent to jail through the court.
It is worth noting that the deceased student is Suraiya Khatun (13). She is an eighth grade student and the daughter of Md. Swapan Khan of Jantihar village of B.L. Bari union of Faridpur upazila. Suraiya went missing from in front of her house on the afternoon of January 13 (Tuesday). After searching everywhere, his brother Md. Abdul Jabbar Khan filed a general diary (GD) with Faridpur police station on January 16 (Friday) after he could not find any trace of him. Five days after his disappearance, his body was recovered from a beel with his hands, feet and mouth tied.
