


A total of 71 rounds of ammunition were recovered in an abandoned condition by joint forces in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla on Wednesday afternoon.The recovery took place in Bakhrikandi village under Sultanpur Union, after locals discovered the bullets while digging near a house.
According to sources from the joint forces, on Wednesday morning, residents were digging about two feet into the ground beside the kitchen area in front of the home of Md. Rashidul Islam, a resident of the village's eastern neighborhood, to build a traditional clay stove. During the digging, they discovered a white polythene bag containing the abandoned ammunition.
Locals immediately informed the Debidwar Army Camp, prompting a swift response. A team from the Debidwar Army Camp, accompanied by Debidwar Police, arrived at the scene and recovered the bullets around 3:00 PM. The ammunition was later brought to the local police station for further investigation. Initial assessments by the joint forces suggest that the bullets are likely obsolete and may belong to a machine gun.
Speaking on the matter, Debidwar Police Station’s Investigation Officer (OC) Md. Mainuddin confirmed the recovery, stating, “The 71 bullets were found underground, packed in a polythene bag. A thorough investigation is underway to uncover the origin and context of the ammunition, and a case is currently being processed.”
