Authorities have suspended ferry operations on the vital Daulatdia-Paturia river route starting Friday evening as thick fog significantly reduced visibility, posing a risk of mid-river accidents.

According to Md. Salahuddin, Manager of the BIWTA Daulatdia office, the suspension was implemented at 7:00 PM. The decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.

While the authorities are currently verifying if any vessels are stranded mid-stream, they confirmed that the service will remain halted until weather conditions improve and visibility returns to a safe level.

In a rare occurrence for this busy route, BIWTA officials noted that there were no significant queues of vehicles waiting on either side of the river at the time of the shutdown, minimizing immediate public suffering.
