Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, has confirmed that Iran will take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026 despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
He said Iran has already qualified and its players have the full right to compete. Concerns had been raised due to strained relations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. However, FIFA does not see any uncertainty over Iran’s participation.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Iran is scheduled to play group-stage matches in the United States, which has led to security concerns.
Iran had earlier proposed moving its matches to another country due to the conflict, but FIFA rejected the request. A temporary ceasefire has since eased tensions.
Infantino emphasized that football should remain separate from politics and serve as a platform to unite people.
