Thousands of devotees across 11 villages in Laxmipur district are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday, aligning their festivities with the moon sighting in Saudi Arabia.
The main Eid congregation was held at 7:00 AM at the Khankaye Madania Kasemia Eidgah Maidan in Ramganj upazila, led by Maulana Md. Ruhul Amin, the head of Ramganj Alia Madrasa. Hundreds of other devotees took part in separate morning prayers across their respective village grounds before performing the ritual animal sacrifices.
The early celebrations span several villages, including Noagaon, Joypura, Bigha, Hotatia, Sharshoi, and Kanchanpur in Ramganj; parts of Raipur upazila; and Kalakopa village in Laxmipur Sadar. A festive rural fair also set up near the central Eidgah, drawing local children and families.
As spiritual followers of the late Maulana Ishaq (RA), residents of these pockets have strictly followed the lunar calendar of Mecca and Medina for nearly five decades.
"For 49 years, our community has celebrated Eid in tandem with Saudi Arabia," explained Maulana Ruhul Amin. "In the past, communication limits made global news sharing difficult. Today, with modern science, that is no longer an obstacle.
According to Islamic jurisprudence across the major schools of thought, a moon sighting in one part of the world can be validly observed by believers elsewhere."
