Activists of the anti-discrimination student movement removed a tin fence and an iron gate from the front of former minister Amir Hossain Amu's residence on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at the house located on Rollans Road. Eyewitnesses said the protesters dismantled the tin fence that had recently been installed at the main entrance. The activists then distributed the tin sheets among local distressed and underprivileged families.
The protesters also removed the house's iron gate and handed it over to local residents.
The residence has been abandoned since it was vandalized and set on fire during the mass uprising on August 5 last year. According to locals, an unidentified party installed the tin fence at the gate last Thursday.
The action has drawn mixed reactions from the local community. As of Wednesday evening, the district administration and local police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
