Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has submitted his nomination papers to contest the Chittagong-5 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election.

He submitted his nomination papers to Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Md. Ziauddin at around 11:30 am on Sunday (December 28).

Talking to reporters after submitting his nomination papers, Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin said that the instability in the election field has started to subside since the day Tarique Rahman announced his arrival in Bangladesh. After his return to the country, all kinds of instability and uncertainty have been eliminated. The country is now moving towards elections and a fair and beautiful election will be held on February 12.

Expressing optimism about winning the election, he further said that in addition to the party's announced manifesto, there is a plan to issue a separate manifesto considering the local problems and possibilities of his constituency.

Earlier, he collected nomination papers on December 17.

According to the revised schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers for the National Assembly elections is December 29. The selection of nomination papers will continue from December 30 to January 4, 2026. An appeal against the decision of the Returning Officer can be filed from January 5 to 9.

The appeal will be settled between January 10 and 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 20. The final list of candidates will be published and symbols will be allotted on January 21.

The election campaign will start on January 22 and can be conducted until 7:30 am on February 10. Voting will be held on February 12.
