High-level representatives from six South Asian nations are arriving in Dhaka to attend the inauguration of the new government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), following its victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
The ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, will host prominent regional leaders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Pakistani Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal will be among the distinguished guests.
The transition follows a formal invitation from Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to the heads of 13 nations, including China and Saudi Arabia. Diplomatic sources confirmed that the Indian delegation will include Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while Pakistan will be represented by Mr. Iqbal as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently on an official visit to Austria.
Other confirmed attendees include Nepalese Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma and Sri Lankan Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa. Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is also expected to attend, alongside UK Under-Secretary Seema Malhotra.
Security across the capital has been heightened to international protocols. A special coordination cell has been established at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to facilitate the arrival of world leaders.
President Md. Shahabuddin is set to administer the oath of office tomorrow afternoon. Political analysts view the broad regional participation as a significant diplomatic success for Bangladesh, signaling a positive reset in bilateral relations with both neighboring and Western partners.
