Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the prominent convenor of Inqilab Moncho and a defining voice of the July Uprising, has passed away. He died on Thursday while undergoing specialized medical treatment in Singapore, following a targeted assassination attempt in the capital.
The Incident and Medical Struggle
The revolutionary leader was critically injured on December 12 in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. While traveling by rickshaw, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle intercepted him near the local water tank. One attacker fired at close range before the duo fled the scene.
Hadi’s journey for survival began at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, followed by intensive care at Evercare Hospital. He was eventually flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Legacy and Reactions
Inqilab Moncho confirmed his passing via their official social media, hailing him as a "martyr" in the struggle against external hegemony. Known for his "fiery" leadership, Hadi was widely expected to be a significant contender in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, representing the political aspirations of the uprising's youth.
