Bangladesh experienced its third earthquake in a span of just 36 hours, raising concerns following a deadly quake the previous day.
The latest tremor, measuring 4.3 magnitude on the Richter scale, was felt across Dhaka and several other parts of the country around 6:06 PM. Both the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and the US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the quake.
The epicenter was located in Narsingdi, specifically identified as 23km from the BMD office in Dhaka's Agargaon, and 2km from Ghorashal, Narsingdi, according to the USGS. The BMD initially reported the location as Badda but later corrected it to Narsingdi. Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported from this 4.3 magnitude jolt.
This evening's quake followed an earlier 3.3 magnitude tremor recorded at approximately 10:36 AM in Narsingdi's Palash upazila. The BMD initially placed the epicenter of the morning quake in Baipail before correction.
These two tremors come shortly after a powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred the day before (yesterday) at 10:38 AM, which tragically killed 10 people across the country, including Dhaka. The epicenter of the 5.7 magnitude quake was located in Madhabdi, about 13km east of the Seismic Centre at Agargaon.
