US President Donald Trump described the killing of top Iranian officials as a “very honorable” act in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday, March 13.
Trump claimed his administration is working to dismantle Iran’s military and economic capabilities. He said Iran’s navy and air force are largely ineffective, and the country’s missile and drone stockpiles are rapidly depleting. He emphasized that these measures aim to overthrow the current Iranian regime.
Trump added that the United States is “on the battlefield with unmatched weapons and unlimited ammunition” and has ample time to act. He called the Iranian government a “crazy group,” accusing it of killing innocent people in Iran and abroad for the past 47 years. As the 47th US President, he said ending this regime is a “very honorable responsibility.”
His remarks have sparked renewed tension in international politics.
Earlier, in February, talks between Tehran and Washington on Iran’s nuclear program lasted 21 days but ended without an agreement on February 27. The following day, the US launched a military operation called ‘Operation Epic Fury’ in Iran. Israel also initiated a major operation, ‘Operation Roaring Lion.’ On the first day, an airstrike reportedly killed at least 40 senior Iranian military and civilian officials, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, effectively ending the initial phase of the conflict.
Iran has since launched counterattacks targeting US bases and strategic sites in Israel and Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, with drone and missile strikes. Analysts warn that Trump’s statements could further destabilize the Middle East, noting that publicly calling for the destruction of another government violates international diplomatic norms.
